What is the difference between a facial mask and a peel?

I am confused about whether a mask and a peel serve the same purpose or if they are completely different. Also, if they are different, how often should they be used? I know that those glycolic acid peels can be used up to 2x a week...but I don't know much about masks. What is the difference between a facial mask and a peel?
Facial masks control excessive oil and helps tighten pores.

Facial peels remove dead skin cells which can make your complextion look dull.

You can use a facial mask twice a week but only have a facial peel once a month! What is the difference between a facial mask and a peel?
Facial ,masks help tighten pores and control excessive oil in th et- zone area (forehead, nose and cheeks) and peels remove dead skin that can make a persons face appear dull.
